Jenny Lessard was born on Long Island to a large, creative family that includes the eminent American architects Lawrence and Stanford White. Between the ages of six and ten, she lived in Paris and Florence surrounded by the beauty of classical European art. In Florence Jenny became captivated by the intricate motifs of the architecture and paintings. This early fascination grew into a love of fine detail and precise decorative patterns, which is an important element in her jewelry today.
She began her formal training at age 16, at the Kulicke and Stark Academy, now known as the Jewelry Arts Institute. From co-founders Bob Kulicke and Jean Stark, Jenny studied the techniques of classical jewelry making such as repousse, granulation, chain making, stone carving and byzantine enameling. She spent a total of six years studying and working at the Academy -- first as a student, three years as a personal apprentice to Jean Stark and four of the six years as an instructor. Among other projects, she demonstrated classical enameling at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
At age 20 she began to expand her horizons into the contemporary realm. She took work as a bench jeweler with Jose Gomez at Pepe’s creations and later at Guillemin Soullaine. She was the first woman jeweler at both these companies that were creating some of the finest jewelry of the time. She learned the complex mechanics and skills required in contemporary jewelry design. As part of her work, Jenny fabricated a pair of earring for Elizabeth Taylor, a necklace for a Saudi sheik, completed a number of pieces for Fred Joaillier, Asprey and restored Ancient Egyptian jewelry for Christie's of New York. At Guilllemin Soullaine she worked under the guidance of European and Russian masters to create a line for Harry Winston. At the age of 23, Jenny established herself as an independent designer. She was selected and showcased as a featured designer in the NY international Jewelry show, her work has been auctioned off at Christie's and she created one of a kind pieces for jewelry houses including Harry Winston, Julius Cohen and Bulgari.
Jenny Lessard is dedicated to designing and the art of sculpting fine jewelry and objects. Her work integrates the aesthetics that have been most central in her life:
*The intricate details and motifs she loved as a child in Florence
*Symbols, forms and high Karat golds from antiquity
*Protective, sophisticated structures from contemporary jewelry.
With exquisite craftsmanship each piece is created to be a world of it’s own. Working exclusively for her private clients, Jenny weaves personal themes into each design carrying on the ritual of adornment.
